When someone asks ChatGPT "who's a good web agency in London?", you want to be in the answer. There is no guaranteed route to a citation, but clear information and a technically accessible website are a useful starting point. Here's the practical playbook.
Write the way models read
Lead with the answer. Put a clear, direct response in the first sentence under a question-shaped heading, then expand. This helps readers understand the answer quickly; it does not guarantee an AI citation.
Give machines structure
Use accurate Organization, Article and other relevant schema that matches the visible page. FAQ sections can help readers, but Google no longer displays FAQ rich results; adding FAQ markup is not a promise of extra search visibility. Structured data is how you remove ambiguity about your business.
Do you need an llms.txt file?
An llms.txt file can provide a convenient summary, but it is not a requirement for Google Search or its AI features. Google says there is no special AI schema or file needed. Build consistent authority
- Say the same thing about yourself everywhere, site, profiles, directories.
- Earn mentions from sources the models already trust.
- Keep facts (name, location, services) identical across the web.
